From Sierras 2012
On the way home we stopped at the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, site of the filming of hundreds of movies. Here you see Mt Whitney, tallest peak in continental US, framed through a natural arch
Panorama shot of the sunset over the Minaret peaks. The site of Devil's post pile is under the clouds on the left.
Another so so sunset from Minaret viewpoint
we had several inches of snow just before we left
I almost stumbled on this black bear, and shouted out "sh-t, it's a bear!!". The bear then thought "sh-t, it's a human!!" and ambled away as quick as it could
One of the Mammoth lakes
One of the Mammoth Lakes, just before a snow storm
More views of the Minarets.
outside of Mammoth Lakes, the Inyo craters were formed when hot magma reached underground water, which caused a flash steam explosion that blew a hole in the earth.
The outhouses are leaning more and more
Some of the paints apparently were very bright. here we see only a remnant of what must have been a bright green fence.
side view of engine cover of a car
The town was full of textures to see.
one of the old trucks left at the gas station
The main hotel, with a very spooky deer on the ornately fashioned wall, and reflections of the town in the window.
