Salton Sea : Max and I travel to the Salton Sea, 100 miles east of San Diego, the worlds second saltiest body of water, and over 200 ft below sea level. Once touted as a resort destination in the 1940's and 50's, increasing salination and fish die offs and floods kept people away, and the former resorts are abandoned. We stopped first at one man's art project dedicated to his religion, called Salvation Mountain. Then we visited several communities that had been abandoned to the rising sea in the 1970's's, and recently uncovered in their salty corrosion after the sea levels fell.
Max said it correctly when he described the scenery as "post apocalyptic".
